Eating For Two: A Healthy Diet During Pregnancy

You’re pregnant but that doesn’t mean you get to eat whatever and however you want. Having a healthy pregnancy and to keep you and the baby healthy during the nine month period is important. Most women become anemic during pregnancy due to a bad nutrition.

I don’t mean to rain on your parade but you can’t eat ice cream everyday for nine months no matter how much you may be craving it! Pregnancy should not give you the green flag to get fatter and eat junk with out guilt. You have to eat for two and think for two also.

A woman needs about 300-400 calories extra a day especially as you start growing and getting into those important trimesters of baby organ development. These calories should come from nutritious food, and I don’t know if you know but 400 calories of fruits and vegetables is a huge amount of veggies so you’ll be sure to never go hungry! During a pregnancy, a woman can gain anywhere from 20-40 pounds! Most of it being water weight, baby weight and stored proteins/nutrients. You are what you eat and if you eat junk then your baby will be receiving nothing but junk, sugar and empty calories.

Your body needs calcium just like you do so make sure you are eating food high in calcium and other vital nutrients and vitamins. If you were eating one orange a day, make sure you increase it to two oranges a day. That will give you enough vitamin C for you and your baby. Get your proteins from tofu, nuts, and peanuts. Lentil beans and other legumes are a great source of protein and fiber. Spinach is a great superfood. You can get Iron and calcium from spinach. Broccoli is also great for calcium.

Get some sunlight for Vitamin D. You can go for a walk exercise and receive vitamins. It’s a great way to multi task. Vegetables and fruits are very high in antioxidants and will keep you balanced and healthy. It will also lower risks of any cancers and illnesses. They have important food enzymes to make sure you digest your food properly so that you can get the best out of your food! Balance is the key. Vegetables, fruits, water and plenty of exercise will keep you and your baby healthy! Spend some time in the sun and do what makes you happy. Positive attitudes will also help against any hormonal mood swings. Drink tea and eat healthy. You’ll notice your pregnancy will feel like a breeze, creative and as a beautiful part of your life. Treat your body with health and love to have optimum results.
